Chatting to residents on the doorstep is an absolute privilege. It gives a candidate like me a unique insight into people’s views and the opportunity to find out what really matters. It’s great that so many residents are willing to share their views (from a safe distance) whatever their views may be.
I have met some really lovely people who I would quite happily spend all day talking to and Roger, my excellent and patient election agent, sometimes has to almost drag me a way!
The last few days I have talked to many residents across Ottery St Mary. Time and time again the issue of the poor state of the roads has been mentioned as a major concern. In particular the dreadful state of the road in Yonder Street and Bridgefield have been mentioned most often. People are incredulous that less well used roads have been resurfaced but these key roads have not yet been fixed.
Claire has been actively pursuing these road repairs – and others. If elected on 6th May I will certainly be vigorously pressing for urgent action to resolve the poor state of roads in the Otter Valley.
It is worth mentioning that despite budgets suffering very significant cuts due to ten years of austerity, this year Conservative-led County Hall has underspent its highways maintenance budget, which is quite wrong.
